9 Ways to Make More Money Today Through Blogging

Assume you have an established blog / website. IE – a blog that can be monetized. One with quality content, and decent levels of traffic.
The first thing worth mentioning is that every blog will have its own strategy when it comes to making money blogging. Joe might rely solely on PPC, whereas Larry might be against PPC and choose to make his money through affiliate ads. There is no proven cookie-cutter method for making money with your blog. If anyone is selling you an opposite opinion; you’ve discovered their method for making money with their blog.
Most bloggers will test, tweak, adjust, and invent their own methods to make money blogging. Let these 9 ideas serve as a starting point for you. Only you will know how your readers in your niche will react with each of these methods.

9 Ways to Make Money Blogging

1. Pay Per Click (PPC) – Probably one of the easiest, and most widely known methods for making money blogging is via Pay Per Click ad campaigns. The king of this hill is Google, with their AdSense program. The basic premise of this system is that you insert a snippet of code into your sites content, or design. Based on the niche of your blog, ads that are relevant to your readers are then displayed in either text, or image format. Each time a visitor clicks an ad, you’re paid. These can work well on sites that generate a lot of traffic, but can be a hard-go for sites just starting out. Your content will also play a big factor in how much you’re paid per click. A site discussing mortgages will have  higher value than say a site that deals with balloons.

2. Create and Sell Your Own Product – When it comes to making money blogging, nothing will go further than selling your own product. Assuming its a good product/service, of course. This could be an eBook, a training course, or a widget. If the product or service has legs, turn the tables, and have other sites sell your product through PPC, or affiliate marketing.

3. Paid Memberships - Implementing a paywall could generate money from your blog by allowing paying members access to premium content such as videos, downloads, audio books, etc. Many news sites have now implemented this method of site monetization. The trick to this method is proving great content on the front end, and even better info on the backend. Fact of the matter is that you’ll never compel someone to spend money for a subscription if you’re feeding them weak material as a teaser.

4. Banner Ads – This one is pretty traffic dependent, and brings me back to my original point about having a site that you can monetize. Assuming you’ve got the traffic to sustain it, you can sell banner placements on your site. This is usually negotiated on a CPM (Cost per mile) basis. The “buyer” would pay a certain rate for every 1000 times their ad is displayed on your site. Depending on your niche, this could be more profitable than CPC, or vice versa.

5. Affiliate Marketing – When it comes to Affiliate Marketing, think commissioned salesperson. Lets say company (A) wants to sell a new hand cream. You, having a cosmetics blog, would be provided with a link to promote to your readers. Anytime a reader clicks that link, and makes a purchase, you’re provided a commission. Commissions will range from 10%, all the way up to 75%. A few of the most notable Affiliate networks are Clickbank, and Amazon.

6. Sponsorship – I used to run a consumer electronics review site back around 1998-1999ish. I sometimes still kick myself for not continuing the site, but that’s besides the point. The point is that I used to get all kinds of great (read: free) gear from running that site. Manufacturers used to send me video cards, sound cards, CPU’s, etc to review. In most cases, I used to make money by selling the gear. All of this to say, if you can get sponsors, either for gear or money, this can be a lucrative way to make money blogging.

7. Email Marketing - If you have a healthy newsletter list, you can actually charge to mention products / services to your subscribers. Although this isn’t necessarily something you need a blog to do, it is a great way to compliment your “make money blogging” strategy. Like I said at the start, its about finding what works for you, and many people have found that monetizing the subscribers gained from their blog, is the right approach for them. If you decide to go this route.

8. Review a Product - Building on my last point, you can review a product. This can be a sticky one, as you could (I speak from experience) find yourself caught in a tough spot by wanting to provide your audience an honest, accurate, and helpful review, while wanting to grow, and maintain a relationship with a sponsor. For instance, Steve from XYZ widgets wants you to review his newest Flux Capacitor, and he’s willing to pay you $100 to that. Problem is, Steve’s product sucks. You only realize this while conducting the review itself. Now what?
When it comes to generating money from your blog by reviewing products, you need to have a clear outline of what you will provide within the review, and the sponsor should have an option to nix the review should the ball not bounce his/her way. That said, there should be a non-refund clause built into your agreement.

9. Personal Appearances and Speaking Fees - Let’s think big for a moment. You’ve got a large following, you’re an expert in your field, and you’re ready to take things to the next level. Some bloggers are taking their information offline. Charging to make personal appearances, or for speaking at conferences/public speakings is a great way to make money from being a blogger. Again, it must be stressed that you must be have a significant reputation before attempting this.
